I've been reading a lot about capsule wardrobes and how they can help to simplify your life. I also like the idea of investing in a few quality pieces as opposed to a boat load of cheaper items. Having less would definitely make it a bit easier to create outfits in a hurry. If you've never heard of capsule wardrobes, a great place to start would be Caroline's website Un Fancy. Not only does she explain what capsule wardrobes are, but she also offers some helpful resources to get you started on your own.
Another great capsule resource that I've found but haven't used just yet is an App called "Stylebook" by Jess and Bill Atkins. It allows you to take an inventory of your clothes and plan out your daily outfits, or even create and save travel packing lists. Looks super easy to use, and seems like it would be really good for saving you money and time. Once I give it a shot, I'll post a review up here for you to check out.
Are you an expert at capsule wardrobes, or are you just starting out? Let me know about your experiences with this in the comments below.
When it comes to hanging art in our homes, sometimes it can feel difficult to figure out what will make the cut. The bottom line is that you don't need a massive budget to be able to collect art pieces to showcase on your walls. For starters, selecting art that has sentimental value to you will always make for great art pieces, but also serve as great conversation starters. Whatever you select, make sure it holds value to you. When looking for the perfect art piece, it can be as simple as taking a walk with your phone in hand and snapping pictures of your favourite places to hang out. Maybe a busy downtown street, or a local coffee shop? With so many options online, printing your photos today can be a breeze, and easily mailed to your own home! You may already have some sentimental photos on hand of family or friends. Overall, photography is such a simple solution to finding wall art that you'll love. Shadow box frames are another option that offer the opportunity to showcase collectible items from silk scarves to past house keys. This example from the website Young House Love features a shadow box filled with all of the house keys to John and Sherry's previous homes. They essentially have their adult lives mapped out in four keys on their wall! Shadow boxes offer a great way of honoring the past with objects that you love. When it comes to finally hanging your artwork, there are TONS of video tutorials to choose from. If you're a fan of IKEA like I am, you'll love the new MATTEBY wall hanging template. It comes with four different templates that you can use individually, or mix together to create the look you want with a variety of IKEA frames which happen to be super affordable and simple in design. Have a look at the video below to see what I mean. If you're willing to invest in frames for your images, or if you're looking for other ways to showcase your photography other than hanging it on your wall, look no further than Artifact Uprising. I used this site to create a personalized photo book that I know I'll keep for years to come, but they also offer some great framing options and unique ideas for all of your photograph needs. Their wood calendars make for great gifts, and they offer instagram friendly frames as well as instagram friendly photo books! Last but not least, if you have creative kids in your life, consider framing some of their wonderful works of art. If you have multiple pieces of artwork from the young ones in your life, consider this idea by Little Moth. Simply put by the website's creator, Erica Cook, just "scan children's artwork, shrink, print, and then frame your miniature collection." So really, the secret to selecting wall art for your home is choosing what has sentimental value to you. Not only will it be beautiful on your walls, but it'll also showcase a unique memory or story you can share with people who are lucky enough to view it.
Do you think you'll be using any of these ideas, or do you have wall art secrets of your own? Let me know in the comments section below. --D I was watching the Marilyn Denis Show today and she featured interior designer India Hicks. They featured her new bedding and decor collection inspired by island living. The look is really relaxed, but at the same time well put together. Her jewelry line also features very unique pieces. I love the love letter necklaces :) I love these coral creations! The necklaces are beautiful!
The diamond versions are also very pretty. While checking out House and Home's website, I came across a great article on design featuring J Crew fashions! It's really cool to see how the fashion industry can influence interiors, and vice versa. Have a look at these unique rooms and classic outfits!
Have you ever watched a movie where you noticed the set and decor more than the story in the film itself? Some of my favorite movies are my favorites not only because of the stories they tell, but the awesome houses they feature in them! Sometimes I'll search online to see if there are any screen shots of the set of a movie, just so that I can get a better look at the design and decor.
Thanks to Julia's site, I don't have to hunt down images online of my favorite homes! "Hooked on Houses," which I'm sure you've heard of before, features tons of images of homes from TV shows and movies. Some homes that top my list include: 1. The Break-up 2. Life As We Know It 3. This is 40 4. It's Complicated 5. The Holiday (Amanda's House) Which homes are your favorite? Welcome to my site "Design Enthusiast!" I've created a few websites for work before, but I've never really made one for myself. I finally decided to dive in and create this site as I venture into the world of design. All of the stuff that you'll find here will consist of interior design and decor, as well as other details that catch my interest. I decided for this first post I would feature what would probably be my ultimate dream home! The images below are taken from the Toronto home of designer Ingrid Oomen. I'm a big fan of white kitchens, and I love a simple subway tile back splash. The contrasting floors and industrial style stools are also a unique touch to this kitchen's overall look. I think that black trim around windows help to make a space very sophisticated. I love the black french doors that open up to the backyard. The marble counter tops are also a favourite of mine. Carrara marble is always classic! This bedroom really gives the feeling of a comfortable and relaxing space. The glass window cabinets and french doors make this room absolutely beautiful. I love the look of the canopy bed frame. I really love this simple backyard. The exterior colours of the house are also very classy.
What I love most about this house is how everything works so well together from the colours to the materials, it all flows so well throughout the home. I also think that it would be easy to incorporate pops of colour with the seasons through the use of a variety of accessories from pillows to picture frames. This is definitely one of my many dream homes :) Thanks for stopping by! Let me know what you think. -- D |
